JUNE 10, 2014 – PRES. OBAMA SIGNS BORINQUENEERS CGM BILL

On June 10, 2014, Pres. Obama signed Public Law No. 113-120, the Borinqueneers Congressional Gold Medal Bill (CGM), into law in the presence of eleven 65th Infantry veterans, politicians and others.  After a vigorous, national grassroots campaign by many organizations and individuals, H.R. 1726 was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on May 19th and by the U.S. Senate on May 22nd.  Currently, medal design ideas are being submitted to the U.S. Mint. Once the medal is minted sometime in early 2015, Congress will schedule a ceremony for surviving 65th Infantry veterans to attend where they will unveil the GGM and provide veterans with replica medals.  The CGM will then go on a museum tour before being permanently housed with the Smithsonian Institution.
