LTC ANGEL ESCRIBANO APONTE (RET.) died on November 30, 2008 from a bacterial infection at the age of 80 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico. Born in 1928, Angel graduated from the ROTC Program of the University of Puerto Rico in 1950. He solicited a competitive tour of Regular Army and was sent to Korea. There he was assigned to the 65th Infantry Regiment as a second lieutenant in Companies “E” and “F”. He served for 15 months earning a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. His later assignments included 47th Infantry Regular in Germany; Infantry School in Ft. Benning, GA; 1st Cavalry Division in Korea; the School of the Americas in Ft. Gulick, Panama and Province Senior Advisor in South Vietnam. He retired from the Army after 22 years of service as a lieutenant colonel. Angel is profiled in the documentary film THE BORINQUENEERS.
