I’m sure that all the people you mentioned as stamp honorees are very deserving, but we have forgotten the most important person in the history of Puerto Rico. Our first Puerto Rican Governor, Luis Muñoz Marin, the only Puerto Rican politician that didn’t fleece the people to make himself rich!! The man that made us the Estado Libre Asociado that we are today.

Response:  Luis Muñoz Marin was honored with a U.S. commemorative 5-cent stamp in 1990 as the subject of the first stamp in the Great Americans Series.

i’am a Borinqueneer, Korean War 1951, recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, CIB and other condecorations. I’am also a Vietnam Veteran 1967/68. I just finished a book titled “Corea y Vietnam” Dos Guerras que quise Olvidar”.

I attended an event in NYC at the Viet Nam Memorial on Water Street., NYC. It was the first annual Welcome Home Vietnam Vets. There were veterans from every war, present. I met a man named Thomas Lopez who served in the Korean War. Was he one of the Borinqueneers?

Response:  We do know a 65th veteran named Thomas Lopez who volunteers at the Bronx VA Hospital.  But we cannot tell you with certainty that this is the same person.

Hello, I am sorry to bother all. I am here in search of some information on my grandfather. His name is Jose Manuel Rosado. He was part of the 65th Infantry, 3rd Division (if I remember correctly) in 1950. He was just recently told by his docotors he is ill and has anywhere from a year to 6 months from now. My grandfather really never talked about his time in the Army. He did not make it to the Korean War. He states he was on his way to the airplane with his gear, when he was told he would have to stay behind and train others. He told my father (his son) that he regreated he did not die next to his friends. I would like to see if I can get anymore information about my grandfather’s time in the Army before he passes. I also want my children (11 year old boy and a 4 year old girl)to know more about their great-grandfather, who they have had the honor to know. This is a sad time for Puerto Rico to lose one of our greatest heroes, SFC Modesto Cartagena. Our thoughts and prayers will be with his family during this time. He will live forever in our hearts like so many of the 65th soldiers, including my daddy. To all Borinqueneers forever in our hearts and prayers!

On behalf of myself and my family, I like to present my deepest condolences to the family of SFC Modesto Cartagena for his honorary service. Like we say in Puerto Rico ” el fue un jibaro bravo y probao hasta lo ultimo y murio con las botas puestas ” rest in peace SFC Cartagena and the peace of God be in your soul.
