As a child I grew up listening to the stories and examining with curiosity and awe the photos, medals and memorabilia of my grandfather’s service in the Army. I remember being told he had been captured and thought to be dead when he had in fact escaped and survived for a month eating nothing but raw rice taken from a Korean soldier.

Imagine my surpise when I happened upon your movie while casually channel surfing and realized this was my grandfather’s story on screen! As I watched I felt so many emotions all at once; patriotism, pride and indignation at the treatment of our brave soldiers.

Thank you for telling their story so eloquently. Had I known of your effots I would have proudly contributed to your research.

I am so glad you came out with this dvd I read the book San Juan to Chorwan because I was very interested in the 65th infantry since my father was in the Borinqueneers. He ue to always talk about his time in Korea he used to drive the Colonel around his name was Juan Palenque. If anyone knew him I would love to hear from you. Awesome DVD. God Bless

I see you are showing the film all over the United States , but have you shown it in Puerto Rico, where by all circumstances needs to be seen?! I myself only heard talk from my political tio, who was in the Korean war , but what this film, shows is amazing!! very proud of these men , is any of them alive that we can honor?? Abrasotes1

Born and raised in NYC – I recall the discussion my uncles had when they gather in front of their bodega on 103rd street & 3rd, as well as when I used to go to PR for the summer, my uncles would tell of hauling trucks and canons up frozen muddy hills.
As a teen one, one thought of these exagerrated tales enchanced with a few beers – but as I gradually read more about how beloved country mistreated all those other than whites in the armed services, I came to realize, a bit too late as most of my uncles have passed away, that the stories I heard as a kid were true.

I had never heard of the Borinqueneers until I sat down and watched this documentary. I was amazed and my heart swelled with pride but I was also angry at their treatment. I wish that my father could have lived a little longer to see this as he would’ve been so proud. Thank you so much.

It brings me joy to see stories such as these that finally recognizes the contributions that Boricuas have made and continue to make to this country. The present and future generations need to learn this history. Being a 1st generation Nuyorican, I see so many young Puerto Ricans being raised without the knowledge of their roots.

Thank you for presenting another chapter in the rich history of Borinquen.

I must say that missed the showing on PBS, so I order the DVD so that I can share it with my family and friends. I’m a 3rd generation Veteran and proud of it, but I must say that I am even more proud to be a Puerto Rican Veteran. I like to say THANK YOU! on behave of all the Latinos Veterans here in the states, Puerto Rico as well as dose who are now serving Over in Iraq and other parts of the world. Please continue the great work you are all doing to preserve our Heritage.

Hi I wanted to say to you that you should really make this into a movie… I know it will be successful…. I don’t know if you are on your way… but I would like to be apart in making the film in any way I can help…. My name is Miguel Prosper and if you ever heard of the New York International Latino Film Festival they might like to see this documentary in there. HBO sponsors them. I had been apart of the festival for about 4 years from 2003-2006.

Contact me if you would like some help on the new project. This film needs to be shown. I know there is a market for it…. I work in the art house theatres the audience would like to see it.

First of all, WOW! I was mesmerized when I saw “The Borinqueneers” it was about time that someone showed such fighters,brave,and the most caring human beings on earth in relation to wars fighting for the United States. I want to also say that the 65th infantry must and should be honored in many more ways with the survivals. They deserve to have many monuments here in the states and in Puerto Rico and most of all a day off in rememberance of that war that lost not only soldiers,brothers by heart and soul and the even though some did not have experience as a soldier but they went out not only to fight but to stick together for their fellow “Borinquenos” because this is the way we are even if we do not know eash other but because we are very caring people for each other. Please to Raquel Ortiz and everyone else involve in this documentary…please produce lots and lots more documentaries of Puerto Rico because this is the only way of feeling connected to our “Borinquen Bella”.
