SVC CO 1952-1953 (Deceased 2012)

Victor Caban, 81, was born on April 1, 1931 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and died on July 7, 2012 in Waterford, NY.  In 1951, he was drafted at the age of 20 from Brooklyn, NY.  Victor was a proud Korean War Veteran serving in the 65th infantry for six years.  Part of his duties while assigned to the Service Company was to deliver services and supplies to the men and recover dead bodies.  He remembered seeing about 75 dead bodies at Kelly from the Co. “B” disaster.  At the age of 59, a few years prior to his retirement from G.E. as a machinist for 27 years, he and his wife provided medical care to three children who were each at death’s door and soon after adopted them.  Victor was forever helping Hispanics here and in Latin America by building schools in Nicaragua and by lending money to countless people for food and medical care, etc.  He was interred at the Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors.  Submitted by his second cousin, Erica Gonzalez.
