Sgt. 1st Class Socorro Pereira of San Juan, PR was in Headquarters & Headquarters Company in 1951 during the Korean War. In Vietnam, he served in Co C, 52nd Infantry Regiment, 198 Light Infantry Brigade when he was killed on January 6, 1968 in the Quang Ngai Province. Michael Brennan wrote: “I was with Co. C in the field when Sgt. Pereira walked into an unchartered and abandoned minefield to try and save others that were injured and dying. His last words were “I Know” when others yelled to him that it was a minefield.” He was 37 years old and had served for 18 years.
