Efrain “Fingo” Santiagowas born on April 16, 1932 in Coamo, Puerto Rico. He passed away on May 12, 2009  after losing his battle with his cancer at the age of 77. He was proud to have served in the 65th Infantry and proud of the men who served with him. He also served with the 94th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in Germany until June, 1958. In May, 2009, he was honored by the Puerto Rican National Guard in Coamo, Puerto Rico for his service during the Korean War. His awards include: Army of Occupation Medal for service in Germany, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He had two brothers, Juan Santiago and Pedro Bermudez who were also veterans of the 65th Infantry. Among many of Efrain’s passions were baseball, basketball, music, art, and horses. He also loved to collect ceramic and crystal statuettes. Efrain Santiago is survived by his wife Carmen Ana Santiago, 4 daughters, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
