Jose L. Negrón Torres 

Jose L. Negrón Torres was born in Villalba, Puerto Rico on August 25, 1930 and passed away in Bayamón, Puerto Rico on May 17, 2010 after not recovering from successive heart attacks. He was 79 years old.

He joined the Army in 1948 seeking educational opportunities. In 1949 he was inducted into the Regular Army.  He served with Company D, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War, from 1950 to 1951. He participated in the Inchon invasion and the rescue of the Marines at the Chosin Reservoir.  After his combat duty, he served in the Panama Canal.  He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1955, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Among his military honors the most revered for him was his Combat Infantry Badge.  He also participated in the Washington, DC 1995 inauguration of the Korean War Memorial.

Jose utilized his GI Bill to study accounting at the University of Puerto Rico, where he obtained a B.A. degree. He retired from the American Tobacco Company after 30 years as Chief Accountant of the Puerto Rico Branch. He followed with 15 years as the Controller of the American University of Puerto Rico.  He was active in remodeling his house and freelance accounting to the day he was hospitalized.

Jose is survived by his wife of 55 years, one daughter, two sons, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
